This week was a little busy. While I’m not making TikTok’s or making something out of resin, I really like to wind down with doodles. I started this one about a month ago while trying to familiarize myself with ProCreate.

This is what I think my brain looks like at any given moment. Sometimes it grows or shrinks or stretches to new lengths but this is baseline for me. Colorful and a little weird, but concise and cohesive. Even a little dark and mysterious.

This concludes my month of #WallpaperWednesday.

Tune in next month for the start of my February design challenge!

If you don’t already know, I carry a small figurine on my person 95% of any given time. And out of context it might sound a little weird. Let me explain.

It’s my travel buddy, Hans! At just 1.5 inches tall, he has somehow managed to have never been replaced for 5 whole years. Our history includes a trip to Europe, a couple to Mexico, and several cities within the US. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve misplaced him a few times… But he’s always found. Usually in pocket from a jacket I haven’t worn in forever or my friend’s car after a night out.

A question I get asked a lot is “where did he come from?” Shoutout to my friend Caitlin, who gifted me him as I was getting ready to leave for my semester abroad. He came in a mystery bag and at first I didn’t quite know what I was getting. After opening the bag, I knew he was perfect. His sitting position made it easy to fit him in just about any photo I wanted to take. His expression was projecting my exact feelings at the time. Something between scared and hopeful. He and I were leaving home for the first time.

With that being said, keep a look out on Instagram for where our next adventure takes us!

Inspo:

After becoming a social media manager for the San Antonio Shapers & Shufflers, I’ve put my heart into fostering an inclusive dance community. This means curating meetups and events, promoting, and content creation from start to finish. It doesn’t look like much effort from the outside. But the truth is… it’s a lot of freaking work!

I was starting to feel burnt out and wasn’t sure if I should continue to run the page or to pass it on to a younger, brighter soul. While talking to one of my girl friends about feeling this way and she reassured me. She said “You deserve your flowers, girl.”

The quote grounded me and changed my state of mind from “you’re not doing enough” to “you’ve accomplished so much, don’t take that away from yourself.”

Inspiration behind the quote:

Loss of a friend group…

What was once a really close group of friends that did everything together… grew apart. Blatantly, friend breakups or growing pains always kind of suck. But just like any other relationship, they teach you things. I realized a lot about myself when these “breakups” were taking place. I realized how reactive I could be. I realized I wasn’t serving my friends in the same way that they were serving me. I realized that it was okay to have some FOMO from time to time. I realized I am introverted and sometimes people are exhausting! So while it hurt a little to come out of these friendships, I know I have grown in a better and healthier direction.

… and my job.

Maybe you noticed, maybe you just assumed I had my life together this whole time… But I was laid off last year. While inconvenient, it was apparent that I had grown out the position. At the beginning of my job hiatus, I went from applying to basic admin jobs to believing I could teach myself how to code almost overnight (lol). After some refining and tons of research, I’ve narrowed my search down to art. You can call it graphic design, UI/UX, or even arts n crafts… I really can’t choose one!
